In the weeks leading up to surgery

• The office will set up a pre-admit appointment, typically about a week before surgery.
• Blood work and any other testing will be done the day of pre-admit.
• Discuss all medications with your surgeon, including aspirin, NSAIDs, and blood thinners.
• Report any new infections or health issues before your surgery date.
• Arrange a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours.
• Prepare your home by keeping essentials within reach and removing trip hazards.
• Bring your photo ID, insurance card, and current medication list.
• Follow all fasting and medication instructions from your doctor.

When you arrive at the surgery center

• Arrive 15 minutes early for check-in. The office will call the day before with your arrival time.
• Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and leave valuables at home.
• Our nursing team will review your medical history and start your IV.
• You will meet your anesthesiologist, and your surgeon will answer final questions.
• Family may wait in the waiting area during your procedure.

Recovery and going home

• Most patients return home the same day.
• Nursing staff will monitor recovery before discharge.
• You will receive detailed discharge instructions and follow-up appointment information.
• No alcohol, driving, operating machinery, or signing legal documents for the first 24 hours.
• Take pain medication with food and reduce to as-needed use after 48 hours.
• Use ice packs liberally for the first 48 hours and elevate the surgical area when possible.
• Keep your dressing clean and dry.
• Begin physical therapy as advised, typically a day or two after surgery.
